Creating Project Classifications

Learn how to create project categories to better organize your estimates

Overview

Project Classifications are a great way to keep your projects organized in Estimating Link's Project Explorer (Treeview).  Project Classifications are completely customizable to fit your company's needs.  You can organize your projects in any method you choose - by customer, geography, department, type of work, etc.

Setting up Project Classifications

Project Classifications are kept in a library within Estimating Link. You can create, modify, and delete your classifications.

To access your library, go to Setup>Options>Project Classification Library.

Inside your library, you can create new classifications and modify or delete existing ones.

As soon as you create a classification, it will show in the Project Explorer (Treeview).

🗒️Note: "Unclassified Projects" is an Estimating Link default classification.  If you do not have Project Classifications set up, all projects will be listed under unclassified.

Using Project Classifications

There are two ways you can classify your projects so they are listed in the Treeview appropriately

👉Drag and Drop Method

Using your computer mouse, drag the project in the treeview and drop it in the project classification or your choice.   You will see a small dotted box next to your mouse indicating your are dragging/dropping.

👉Set Classification in Project Properties

Open your project, then go to File>Project Properties.  Navigate to Classification and use the drop down menu to select your Classification.

💡Tip: To "unclassify" your project, select the blank line at the very top of the drop down menu.
