Meet EL4: The Next Generation of Heavy Civil Estimating Software
Estimating is complicated. Your software shouldn’t be.
Meet EL4, the next generation of Estimating Link® and a modern, web-native heavy civil estimating platform shaped by 40 years of contractor feedback. EL4 is being built to give today’s connected estimating teams a simpler, more flexible foundation for managing complex bids—and to support the future of heavy civil estimating.
Heavy Civil Estimating Has Changed
Heavy civil estimating has always been a balancing act. Every estimate depends on accurate quantities, production rates, material costs, equipment, subcontractors, labor, and countless project-specific variables. The margin for error is small, and every bid represents an opportunity to win work—or lose it.
While those fundamentals haven't changed, the environment surrounding them certainly has.
Today's contractors are bidding larger and more complex infrastructure projects than ever before. Whether it's highways, utilities, bridges, airports, or site development, estimators are expected to analyze more information in less time while maintaining the level of accuracy their companies depend on.
At the same time, estimating teams are becoming more connected. Project information is shared across offices, employees work remotely, and historical job data has become increasingly valuable for building competitive bids. Contractors need fast access to estimating information wherever work happens—not just from a single workstation.
Technology is evolving just as quickly. Artificial intelligence, automation, and connected platforms are beginning to reshape how construction companies organize information and make decisions. While experienced estimators remain at the center of every successful bid, the tools they use are expected to do more than ever before.
The challenge is that many estimating solutions were designed for a different era. As the industry has evolved, software has often become more complicated, workflows have become disconnected, and teams often spend more time managing information than analyzing it.
Heavy civil estimating is already complex. Software that helps contractors estimate shouldn't add to that complexity.
Why We Built EL4
Technology changes. Construction changes. The needs of estimators change.
For 40 years, one thing has remained constant: our commitment to listening to the contractors who use Estimating Link® every day.
Customer conversations, feature requests, and real-world estimating experience have guided the evolution of our software. EL4 is the result of that collaboration—a modern platform shaped by the contractors, estimators, and business owners who depend on accurate estimates to win profitable work.
EL4 is designed to continue evolving. As heavy civil construction changes, customer feedback will help guide future capabilities, workflow improvements, and platform enhancements.

A Modern, Web-Native Foundation
The way contractors work has changed. Teams are collaborating across offices, working remotely, and accessing project information from more places than ever before. The software supporting those teams needs to keep up.
That's why EL4 was built as a web-native application from the ground up.
Rather than adapting desktop software for the web, EL4 was designed specifically for today's connected workforce. EL4 gives authorized users browser-based access to their estimating environment, making it easier for teams to stay connected across offices and remote work locations.
Building EL4 as a web-native platform wasn't just about improving accessibility—it was about creating a stronger foundation for the future. This modern architecture allows the platform to evolve more efficiently, making it easier to deliver new capabilities, enhancements, and innovations as the needs of heavy civil contractors continue to grow.
This foundation is designed to grow alongside the industry and support the continued evolution of Estimating Link®.
EL4 Today: Early Access Beta
EL4 is currently being introduced through a phased Early Access Beta program available exclusively to current Estimating Link® customers. Rather than releasing every feature at once, we're working alongside the contractors who know our software best to gather real-world feedback, validate new functionality, and continue refining the platform before its full release.
Each phase of Early Access allows participating customers to explore new capabilities while helping us better understand how EL4 performs in everyday estimating scenarios. Their feedback plays an important role in shaping future enhancements, workflow improvements, and the overall user experience.
As development continues, additional functionality will be introduced throughout the beta. This phased approach allows us to focus on delivering thoughtful improvements while ensuring every enhancement meets the needs of the heavy civil contractors who rely on our software.
Throughout this process, Estimating Link® Classic, our existing desktop program, remains fully supported, giving customers the confidence to continue using the software they know and trust while EL4 continues to evolve through Early Access.
Our goal isn't simply to release EL4 as quickly as possible. It's to deliver a platform that reflects 40 years of industry experience and the voices of the contractors who helped build it.
